A week before launch, Blizzard reworked racial abilities again in WoW Forever. The changes were announced on October 26, one day before name reservations opened. Several races now play very differently from the way they did in the beta. These tweaks change which race feels best at the very start. Players who want to try a new race quickly often buy WoW Forever boost<\/a> and skip the early levels. Let us break down what changed for Tauren, Humans, Dwarves, Orcs, and Skyborne. So, keep reading to get an idea of how things work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Blizzard Changed the Racials <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Blizzard said the racials were reviewed for identity ahead of launch. The goal is that each race feels distinct, even when some become slightly stronger in certain combat roles. Several class-focused racials that had been swapped for generic ones are now being rolled back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weapon specialization racials are the one exception to this plan, according to Blizzard. The company considers it unhealthy when future raid and dungeon loot depends on required weapon types. The studio also tuned a few passive bonuses. Thus, they do not limit what players want to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tauren: Faster on Foot, Slower on Mounts <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Plainsrunning was the patch that got the largest buff, and it is not hard to understand why. Each stack now gives 2% movement speed instead of 1%. The top bonus increased to 60 percent, up from 30 percent, providing Taaren with a very high running bonus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has a trade-off, however, and it impacts all players who use a mount. The racial no longer adds movement speed based on race. Thus, it is most important prior to the player owning a mount. Endurance also lost its hit chance and critical damage modifiers, and now only provides 5% health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plainsrunning also provided a 3% mounted speed bonus in the beta, making the new version obviously change its focus. Tauren also keep Cultivation, which duplicates a nearby herb on a 15-minute cooldown. That makes them convenient for early herbalism and a constant source of gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Humans and Dwarves: Crit Makes Way for Accuracy <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Human Ruthless now offers 1% critical strike instead of just 2%. Blizzard compensated for that with a more powerful Human Spirit, which increased to 10% Spirit. The latter is what regenerates mana. This way, the buff must assist healers and those who engage in prolonged combat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dwarves lost Earth Fury, providing 2% critical strike damage and healing. Instead, it is replaced by Artisan Precision, a new racial that has a 1% hit chance on spells and attacks. Initial equipment is rarely very precise, and even a single percent can be significant in the initial dungeons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orcs: The Pet Bonus Returns <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Orcs lost Savage, the passive that gave 1% critical strike chance. It is replaced by Command and adds 5% pet damage to Hunters and Warlocks. Blood Fury was also reduced to a 2-minute cooldown, instead of 3. That transformation brings Orcs back to their traditional position of beast masters and demon summoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skyborne: Wind Racials Reworked <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new Skyborne race also received a full round of tuning. Wind-Blessed Haste dropped from 3% to 2%, a small cut to the passive haste bonus. Skysight now grants 15% movement speed for 15 seconds, up from 10%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Location now plays a real part in how this race uses its racials. One hour of Skysight at an elemental convergence provides Charged, increasing the speed bonus to 30%. Charged is not lost by death, and a careless fall does not cancel the work. It is removed by Blizzard when entering a raid. However, it is only beneficial when not in a raid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Read Leyline lost some of its raw power as well, at least without preparation. Its mana and health regeneration fell from 100% to 50% for 15 seconds. Attuned is restored to 100 by using it at a Ley Line and lasts one hour. The ability cannot be used while Innervate is active, because Innervate replaces it. Attuned is also removed when entering a raid. Thus, neither buff accompanies the player indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which Race Should the Player Pick? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

No single race wins every situation after these changes, and that is the point. Tauren suit players who value mobility, and Dwarves suit those who need accuracy. Orcs make sense for pet classes. On the other hand, Humans offer a steady Spirit bonus for healers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trolls, Gnomes, and Night Elves were not mentioned in the October 26 changes. Those three races keep the racials from the latest beta notes. Undead only received a small tweak, as Touch of the Grave cooldown fell from 25 to 15 seconds. Skyborne reward players who learn where the elemental convergences and Ley Lines are located. That makes them a demanding race but also one with a high ceiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement landed just before name reservations opened on October 27. Thus, players had time to plan. Launch arrives on November 4, and the changes may still shift again. A smart player will check the final tooltips in-game before committing to a character.
